Dronco Aluminium Oxide Belts

Dronco manufactures a full resin cloth belt that is coated with aluminium oxide to give the belt a great finish and long lasting quality at a fantastic price.

Aluminium oxide is a white, amphoteric, chemically inert oxide that is an adsorbent for gases and water vapors, a desiccant, and a catalyst support in industrial applications. It is also used as an abrasive and in dental cements.

The crystalline form of the oxide occurs in nature as bauxite and corundum. The abrasive form is a powder and can be used for grinding, polishing, and sanding.

It is a useful ingredient in some plastics, sunscreen, cosmetics, glass and ceramics. It is a good insulator for electrical circuits and is used as a tunnel barrier in superconducting electronics.

In the laboratory, aluminium oxide is used as a chromatography medium. It is available in basic (pH 9.5), acidic and neutral formulations.

Occupational exposure of aluminum oxide to humans is limited to very low levels, and it is not known to pose a health hazard. A radio-labeled alumina inhalation study showed that 45% of the tagged alumina was removed from the lung after one day, with slow mechanical clearance from the balance.

The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists documented a TLV of 0.2 mg/m3 for exposure to alumina, and an BEI of 92 mg/m3 for a 2-hr inhalation of alumina fume each day over 9-13 months. A similar alumina inhalation study with guinea pigs showed that a concentration of 0.38 or 0.58 mg/L (380 or 580 mg/cu m) for 30 minutes resulted in a time-dependent lung dilatory effect.
